Timezone and daylight saving time
Set your organization's one timezone, which Mosque TV, prayer times and the website widget all follow, including daylight saving changes.
Your organization has one timezone, and every part of NizamOS follows it: Mosque TV's clock and countdowns, calculated prayer times, sunrise and sunset, the Hijri date and the website widget. Organization Admins and Super Admins set it in Settings → Organization.
Change the timezone#
- Open Settings → Organization.
- In the Timezone section, choose your zone from the list, for example Eastern Time (Ontario) or Mountain Time (Alberta).
- Choose Save timezone.
Mosque TV and Prayer Setup show the timezone but don't let you change it there. They link to Organization Settings instead.
What happens to your prayer times#
- Calculated prayer times are recalculated for the new timezone. The confirmation says from which date and through which date.
- Your own timetable: your Adhan and Iqamah times are kept exactly as you entered them, as local clock times. Only sunrise and sunset are recalculated.
- If the recalculation can't be done, NizamOS says so. Open Mosque TV → Prayer Setup and save it to update the times.
Daylight saving time#
The timezone is a named region, not a fixed offset like "UTC-5", so clock changes in spring and autumn are followed automatically. You don't need to change anything when the clocks change.
- Calculated times shift with the clock change on the right date.
- If you use your own timetable, enter the times your mosque actually uses on each date. NizamOS shows them as entered.
- The TV's clock and countdowns use NizamOS's time, not the TV's own clock setting.
Good to know#
- Choose the zone for where the mosque is, not where an administrator lives. Prayer Setup warns you if the city you pick for prayer times is in a different timezone.
- Pick the zone that matches your province or state rules. For example, Saskatchewan, Yukon and Arizona have their own entries because they do not change clocks the same way as their neighbours.
- If the TV clock is exactly an hour off after a clock change, first check the timezone here. If it is correct, see Fix wrong prayer or Iqamah times.
