Set up calculated prayer times
Let NizamOS calculate every day's Adhan, sunrise and sunset from your location, calculation method and Asr school.
On this page
NizamOS can work out your Adhan times for every day of the year, so you never have to type them. You choose the location and method once, decide how Iqamah is managed, and NizamOS keeps the TV supplied. Organization Admins and Super Admins do this in Prayer Setup.
Steps#
- Open Mosque TV, then choose Prayer Setup.
- Under Prayer Times, choose Calculate them automatically.
- Location: type in Find a city and pick your city (the list covers a set of Canadian and U.S. cities), or choose Use this device's location while you are at the mosque, or type the Latitude and Longitude. You can add a Place name shown to admins.
- Calculation method: pick the method your mosque or local Islamic authority follows. ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) is the most common choice in Canada and the U.S. Others include Moonsighting Committee Worldwide, Muslim World League, Egyptian, Karachi, Umm al-Qura, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Singapore, Diyanet (Turkey) and Tehran.
- Asr: choose Standard (Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali) or Hanafi (later in the afternoon).
- Iqamah Times: choose rule-based Iqamah or a custom Iqamah schedule. See Iqamah rules and custom Iqamah schedule.
- Preview: check the week shown. Use Week starting or Longest days to check a summer or winter week against your mosque's existing timetable.
- Choose Use calculated times (or Save changes if you already use them).
Advanced options#
Open Advanced: high latitudes and minute adjustments in the Asr step:
- High-latitude rule: leave Automatic (based on latitude) unless your mosque follows a specific rule. The options are One-seventh of the night, Middle of the night and Twilight angle. The Moonsighting Committee method uses its own seasonal adjustment, so this setting does not change its times.
- Adhan adjustments (minutes): only if your mosque deliberately shifts a calculated Adhan, for example Maghrib +2. Each can be between -30 and +30.
Good to know#
- Saving writes times from today ahead (for the period you choose with rule-based Iqamah, up to one year) and keeps them topped up automatically every day.
- Under calculated times, the Prayer Schedule tab on Mosque TV is read-only. Change Iqamah through Prayer Setup instead.
- If some upcoming dates already have typed-in or imported times, NizamOS asks before replacing them. Past dates are never changed.
- If the city you pick is in a different timezone from your organization, Prayer Setup warns you. Fix the timezone in Settings → Organization first, or every time will be off by the difference.
- In some far-north locations, a method cannot work out Fajr or Isha on every date. Prayer Setup then says Automatic calculation isn't available here and offers to use an annual timetable instead.
- Your location, method and Iqamah rules are kept if you switch to your own timetable later, in case you switch back.
