Offline use and automatic updates
How Mosque TV keeps showing prayer times during an internet outage, and how screens update themselves without anyone touching them.
On this page
Mosque TV is built to run for days without anyone touching it. It keeps a copy of your schedule for internet outages, picks up your changes by itself, and updates to new versions of NizamOS on its own.
When the internet goes down#
Once a screen has loaded your display while online, it keeps a copy of about the next 30 days of prayer and Iqamah times, Jumu'ah, settings, slides and ticker messages. If the internet drops:
- the clock, countdowns, slides and the change to a new day carry on from the copy, in your mosque's timezone;
- a small badge in the top-left corner says Offline · Last synced and the time of the last update;
- the badge disappears on its own at the first successful update. While offline, the screen tries again about every 15 seconds.
The copy is kept up to date while the screen is online, at least once an hour and whenever something changes, so an Iqamah change you make for next week is already on the TV before an outage.
When the copy runs out#
If a screen stays offline past the last date in its copy, it does not guess. It shows no prayer times, the badge turns amber and reads Offline · Schedule sync overdue, and the board says "Prayer times need an internet connection to update." Reconnect the screen to the internet and it fills in again.
A screen that has never loaded the display while online has no copy and needs the internet once.
How changes reach the screen#
Screens check for your changes about once a minute. Prayer times, Jumu'ah, slides, the ticker, themes and screen settings all arrive this way, with no reload and no re-pairing.
Automatic updates to NizamOS#
When a new version of the display is released, open screens notice within a few minutes and reload themselves once, only while the plain Prayer Board is showing. They never reload during the Focus, High Focus or Iqamah screens, or in the minute before Focus starts.
Good to know#
- The screen does not reload at midnight. It moves to the new day's times in place.
- If you turn Mosque TV off or remove a paired TV, its offline copy is cleared too, so the screen cannot keep showing your times from the copy.
- If the screen shows Display unavailable after an outage, it keeps retrying by itself and comes back once NizamOS can be reached.
