SMS credit, packages and your texting number
How NizamOS texting is paid for with prepaid SMS credit at cost, the optional monthly SMS package, and your organization's own texting number.
On this page
NizamOS texting is not part of your monthly plan price. Texts are paid for from prepaid SMS credit. Texting is available on the Core and Complete plans. Manage it in Organization settings → Communications → SMS & Phone Number.
The SMS & Phone Number page#
- Your texting number — your organization's own Canadian local number.
- SMS credit — your balance in CAD and roughly how many standard texts it covers.
- This month — texts sent and what they cost.
Add credit#
Under Add credit, choose Add $10.00 or Add $25.00 (CAD) and pay through Stripe. Your credit is the full amount you pay. Credit you buy doesn't expire, and nothing is ever topped up automatically.
How texts are charged#
- Each text is deducted from your SMS credit, in Canadian dollars. The exact cost per text depends on the message and the mobile carrier.
- Before a text is sent, a small amount is set aside from your credit. Once the real cost is known, only that is charged and the rest goes back to your credit.
- A text of up to 160 plain characters is one segment. Longer texts use more segments. Texts with emoji or letters such as Arabic or Urdu fit 70 characters per segment, so they can cost two or three times as much.
- Your organization's name and "Reply STOP to opt out." are part of every text.
- If there isn't enough credit, the text isn't sent.
The page shows the current estimated price per text and the exchange rate used.
Monthly SMS package (optional)#
Instead of topping up by hand, you can subscribe to a monthly package: $5 CAD a month on Core or $10 CAD a month on Complete. Every cent becomes SMS credit when the month's invoice is paid. Unused package credit carries over for up to three months, and it is used before credit you bought separately. Choose Cancel package to stop it at the end of the period.
Your texting number#
Under Dedicated phone number, review the monthly charge for a number, tick the approval box, optionally enter a Preferred area or area code, and choose Request a number. The request moves through Requested, Approved by NizamOS, Being set up and Active. Once approved, you choose Set up the monthly charge. The number's monthly charge is billed separately and never comes out of SMS credit. NizamOS never buys a number until you approve its price.
Good to know#
- If a section says it isn't open yet, NizamOS hasn't opened that option for your organization. Contact NizamOS.
- If your organization moves to Free, the SMS package and number stop renewing. The number is held for 30 days, unbilled, so you can keep it by choosing a paid plan again or ask to transfer it. After that it is released. SMS credit you already have stays on your account.
- Low or empty credit shows a warning on this page and on Notifications.
- Invoices and receipts are in Plan & Billing → Manage billing.
